WELCOME!
Amelia and Graham welcome family and friends alike to Craigville on Cape Cod for our wedding on September 8th, 2007. Guests are invited to bring their partners and families to share in our wedding and reception afterwards, and encouraged to stay and enjoy scenic Cape Cod. Amelia grew up in Craigville every summer, as did her mother and grandfather before her. Amelia's parents, Steve and Alice Brown, have also lived year-round in Craigville since 1998. You can find out more about the history of the village of Craigville at Craigville.org.
The small village of Craigville, founded in 1872, includes the Craigville Conference Center, private cottages and the Craigville Tabernacle. At the center of the village and constructed to imitate a tent in pine, the Craigville Tabernacle will be the site of Amelia and Grahams's wedding ceremony at 4 pm on Saturday, September 8th, 2007. The reception will follow on the Bluff overlooking Nantucket Sound, on the Ballfield between Prospect and Butler Avenues. This Map of Craigville Village shows both locations.
We hope our guests will spend several days enjoying Craigville and Cape Cod! In addition to the ceremony at 4 pm Saturday and the reception immediately following, festivities for out-of-town guests will include a Friday dinner at the Cape Codder Resort in Hyannis and a Sunday brunch in Craigville.
Many Activities are possible during your stay!
Craigville Village nestles on a slender peninsula on the South Shore of Cape Cod bordered by the Centerville River, Red Lily Pond, and Nantucket Sound. The Craigville Village green has a volleyball court, and the Craigville Conference Center has indoor living rooms for gatherings, opening out to sheltered porches with panoramic views of the Ocean and River. If relaxing on a beautiful beach is your idea of heaven, Craigville Village includes Craigville Beach, which National Geographic Magazine has featured as one of the ten best swimming beaches in all the world. The Gulf Stream waters of the Sound are still comfortably warm in September, so bring your bathing suit and a beach towel!
The peninsula of Cape Cod is a New England historic seaside resort area extending more than a hundred miles into the Atlantic Ocean from the southeastern coast of Massachusetts. Excellent sport fishing, kayaking, golfing and bird-watching can all be found within a few miles of Craigville. Nearby Hyannis is home to a large Brazilian population, with several excellent Brazilian restaurants. If history or art are your passions, Plimoth Plantation and Provincetown are both within an hour's drive of Craigville, and frequent fast ferry and commuter air service from Hyannis makes a day trip to the islands of Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard a fun option for shopping or sightseeing.
For more information, or if you would like to help plan a group activity for Friday, Saturday or Sunday, e-mail Amelia's father Steve at comsol@cape.com.
Accommodations:
The Browns have reserved a variety of accommodations for wedding guests in and near Craigville for the nights of Friday, September 7th, and Saturday, September 8th. These accomodations may also be available for longer stays if you wish to include the wedding in your vacation plans.
At the Craigville Conference Center, within walking distance of the wedding, we have reserved the MANOR, which accommodates at least 24 guests. This beautiful old inn overlooks Nantucket Sound and the Centerville River, has a large living room and handicap-accessible bathrooms, and is adjacent to the lawn where the wedding reception will be held.
We have also reserved nearby SEASIDE, another Conference Center building which overlooks the Centerville River. Seaside accommodates at least 30 guests, and has a full kitchen, large common living room and porch. Both the Manor and Seaside are within easy walking distance of the ceremony and the reception. The Manor is a good location for families and early risers, while we recommend Seaside for night owls. Other accommodations in the village have already been reserved for the bridal party.
Accommodations in both the Manor and Seaside are comfortable but rustic. Most rooms have multiple beds. The rates for these accommodations are by the bed, as follows:
-Per bed (single or double) in a room with one or two beds: $60 per night.
-Per bed (single or double) in a room with three or more beds: $50 per night.
A few folding cots and/or futons may also be available for $25 per night.
Alice Brown is managing the reservations for all Craigville accommodations on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve a bed in the Manor or Seaside, or for further information about accommodations in the village of Craigville, please e-mail Alice at aliceb@cape.com.
For those who desire accommodations that afford more privacy and amenities than those provided by the Craigville Conference Center, we have reserved blocks of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at three nearby motels. Contact these motels directly for reservations and mention the Brown-Elliott wedding.
The Cape Codder Hotel and Resort is about two miles from Craigville in the town of Hyannis. Here you will find an excellent restaurant, spa, swimming pool with wave pool, and many other comforts. Visit the Cape Codder's website at www.capecodderresort.com for more information; to reserve a room you need to call 508-771-3000 and be sure to mention the Brown-Elliott wedding.
The Comfort Inn is just down the road from the Cape Codder, also in Hyannis. For a reservation there, phone 508-771-4804, e-mail their sales manager Ken Ethier at kensales504@aol.com, or visit their website.
A bit further from Craigville, other villages such as Hyannisport, Osterville, and Barnstable have many Bed and Breakfasts, and Hyannis, the nearest large town to Craigville, has dozens of other hotels, motels, and inns in every price range. Visit the Hyannis Chamber of Commerce (www.hyannis.com) for more information.
There is limited parking for visitors to Craigville Village. If you are planning to stay in the Village, free parking will be available all weekend. For those with limited mobility, handicap parking is available adjacent to the Tabernacle for the wedding service and at the Manor adjacent to the reception site. For those who find walking a few hundred yards difficult, a shuttle bus will be available from the Tabernacle to the Manor and Bluff for the reception, then returning to the Beach parking lot following the reception.
For those not staying in the Village who are able to walk a short distance and climb stairs, a large parking lot at the Craigville Beach Association will be used for all Saturday wedding evening. For those who would rather not walk, and/or in the case of inclement weather, a shuttle bus will circulate from the beach to the Tabernacle and then to the reception. The ceremony is at 4 PM. Guests who are driving should plan for an extra twenty minutes or so to comfortably ride the shuttle or walk from the beach into the Village.
By Plane:
Hyannis airport is ten minutes from Craigville. Cape Air (www.flycapeair.com) and US Airways (www.USAirways.com) offer regular service to Hyannis from Providence, Boston, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC (Reagan National) airports on small planes.
If small planes are not your cup of tea, fly to Logan Airport in Boston or T. F. Green Airport in Providence, both about a 1.5 hour drive from Craigville. Providence, served by many airlines, particularly Southwest (www.southwest.com), is the smaller and more accessible of these two airports. Airports in the New York City area are a five or six hour drive from Cape Cod.
By Bus or Train: Plymouth and Brockton Bus Company (www.p-b.com) operates comfortable buses hourly at 40 minutes past the hour from Logan Airport in Boston to Hyannis. This company also provides hourly or more frequent service from downtown Boston's South Station, where AMTRAK trains connect. At present, there is no reliable bus service from Providence's Airport or AMTRAK station to Cape Cod. Peter Pan Bus Company (www.peterpanbus.com) operates five daily comfortable, buses from New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal to Hyannis, a six-hour trip.
By Car:
Plan ahead and be advised: highways to Cape Cod cross one of two bridges over the Cape Cod Canal. These two two-lane bridges become quite crowded during high traffic times. When traffic is light, it's easy to zip over the bridges and drive to Craigville in 1.5 hours from Boston or Providence, 3 hours from Hartford, Connecticut, or 4 hours from New York City. But weekend traffic backups at the bridges can add an hour or more to the journey. Especially if you are planning to drive to Cape Cod on Friday afternoon or Saturday just for the ceremony and reception, it's a good idea to factor in the possibility of a delay. Boston radio station WBZ 1030 AM has traffic reports every ten minutes.
Once you have crossed one of the bridges, follow signs to Route 6 (The Mid-Cape Highway) and Hyannis. Please refer to this map for directions to the village.
Whatever way you choose to come to Craigville, Steve and Alice look forward to welcoming you to this historic seaside village and promise a weekend of wonderful relaxation and celebration with Amelia and Graham and their families and friends.
